Reception
Welcome to Reception
We have settled well into school and we are enjoying our learning. We learn through play and structured activities in our classrooms and outdoor area.
Our Teacher is: Miss Hann
Our Teaching assistants are: Miss McDonnell, Mr Boon and Mrs Samolia
Dojo
Dojo is a brilliant communication tool that we use in school. School announcements, celebrations and additional optional learning activities will be sent via the platform. Please remember to check your child's class Dojo page. If you have any issues logging on to Dojo, please see your child's class teacher.
P.E.
The PE days for the Autumn term will be Monday and Wednesday each week. Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school and they come with earrings covered or removed on these days. Please ensure that all school uniform and PE kit is labelled as this helps us to give items back quickly to children if they get mixed up.
Home Reading
The children will complete a reading session each week with a member of staff in school. Home reading books will be changed on a Monday and Friday. We ask parents to read with their child each night for 5 minutes and fill in the reading diary. This alerts staff that the book has been completed and then can be changed. Please ensure reading books are in your child's bag each day.
Spring term
This term we will be learning all about Kings and Queens. We will be taking a virtual walk to London and comparing life there to life in Chorley. The texts we will be reading are: The Queen's hat, A walk in London and Sing a song of sixpence. We will look at how the monarchy has changed from the past and what it might be like now to be a King or Queen. We will explore Castles and the different parts of a Castle. We will have a focus on designing, making and evaluating as the children make London landmarks using junk modelling resources. This term our maths work will cover shape, addition and subtraction, doubling and halving, time and space. We will learn different vocabulary to describe position and have a go at making our own obstacle courses. The children will continue to learn stories from the Bible and learn the message behind each story. We will also begin to learn Holy stories from the religion of Islam, as well as learning about messages of faith and why faith is important to some people. The children will be developing their bravery and courage as this is our focus in PSHE this term. We are looking forward to trying new things and showing courage when something scares us or is new for us. We have a busy term ahead!
