At Buckshaw we are teaching the New National Curriculum for mathematics from September 2014.
We encourage children to develop an understanding of numbers by concentrating on place value, number bonds, tables and the capacity to work both mentally and by using written methods. We use a variety of structured apparatus and aim to develop a positive attitude towards all aspects of mathematics. We strongly encourage our children to learn their number bonds, tables and number facts as a means to building confidence and their ability to solve problems.
The children are encouraged to investigate mathematics, to think clearly and logically, to estimate sensibly, and to use their mental skills to make mathematics relevant to the world in which we live. We call this ‘Using and Applying’.
