On Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed families into school to see Year 3 and 4's show, 'You Are Special' which really was something special! Each and every child was amazing, singing, dancing and acting their socks off to deliver a message that is very important to us at Buckshaw - everyone is different and that's brilliant!

Last night we had a full hall for our annual family bingo night. Thanks to Mr Boon for being our bingo caller and to all those families who supported the event.

Finally, today we had a visit from Father Neil who led an assembly on the theme of Easter and then the children all took part in Easter activities in their classes, finishing with a visit from the Easter bunny and a great big egg hunt! I hope you all have a lovely time over the two week break and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 13th April. It is planned that the scaffolding will be down and the morning mile can return, but I will update you via Dojo to confirm.

Year 2 had a fantastic trip to St. Anne's on Wednesday where they mud dipped in the salt marshes, beachcombed and enjoyed minibeast hunting in the sand dunes. I believe that some children got wetter than others, but that they all had a wonderful
day and represented our school very well indeed. Your grown ups were very proud of you, Year 2.

Tomorrow morning, our team of cross country runners will be meeting in Astley Park to take part in the annual inter-school competition. We look forward to hearing all about it next week.

Next week is a busy week, starting with a celebration day for Eid on Monday and ending with a celebration day for Easter on Friday. Year 3 and 4 have also been working hard on final rehearsals for their show which they are looking forward to welcoming an audience to on Wednesday and Thursday.

This week I have spent some time in classes looking at children's learning in English and Science which was a joy to see. The vocabulary children were using whilst being scientists was incredible!

Children in Year 4 had a great day at The World Museum in Liverpool on Tuesday and Year 5 and Year 6 visited Parklands High School this afternoon to see their annual dance show which was a real treat. As always, we are extremely proud of the children's behaviour - they were excellent ambassadors for Buckshaw.

Thank you to those families who have sent in details of the children's challenges. We have all sorts from trying to drink more water to getting more steps in to learning how to plait hair! We will be celebrating these on Monday morning, so please send in any further examples over the weekend.

Next Friday we will be holding a 'Break the Rules Day' to raise money for school funds. We look forward to seeing the children have lots of fun with this theme!

A very Happy New Year to all our families. It has been lovely to welcome all the children back into school - they have settled back in really quickly and have been working very hard.

Our value this half term is DETERMINATION and in Monday's assembly we talked about all the things we might achieve by keeping working on them one step at a time. Four children were brave enough to take on challenges during assembly and smashed them by showing the most amazing displays of determination, encouraged by their friends. I asked the children to think of other challenges that they might like to take on to test their determination. On Monday, I will be sharing some challenges that the children could work on at home, and we will be celebrating anyone who has achieved them in assembly each Friday - see if you can choose one together. You might even like to join in!

We have lots of exciting events coming up in school which are added to the calendar further down this letter. Details of events will be published nearer to the time.

What a lovely end to the term this week has been.

Thank you so much to all the staff and volunteers who accompanied the trip to the pantomime on Monday - a great time was had by all! This was followed by Christmas parties for each class, many of which had a visit from a very cheeky elf who dropped of gifts for all the children, courtesy of Astley Village Parish Council. Yesterday, our choir visited Derian House where they sung carols for the staff and children. It was a very proud moment to see the joy that they spread. Then Key Stage 2 put on a fabulous show during their Christmas sing-a-long yesterday afternoon!

This morning we have finished the week with a lovely Christmas assembly full of fun and festive cheer! We also sent thanks to all those who have supported school this term, either by giving up time to support on trips, listen to children read and support events such as our Christmas Fair. We really are very grateful for these volunteers. Thank you to you all.

Wishing all our families a very happy Christmas and an enjoyable break. We look forward to 2026 and all the things we have to look forward to next term!

What a wonderful week it has been in school as we lead up to the end of term.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped organise, prepare and run last Saturday's Christmas Fair. It was lovely to see so many children enjoying the various games, stalls and activities and the event raised a whopping £1100 for school funds! Some of this will be spent on ice creams during next week's pantomime visit.

Earlier in the week, our Reception children put on two wonderful performances of 'Hushabye Nativity'. We were all so proud of the courage they showed standing up in front of such a big audience, singing, dancing and speaking beautifully. Well done to them all.

This was followed by the all singing, all dancing show 'Camal-ama-ding-ding' starring our Year 1 and 2 children! And what a fantastic show they put on! The confidence and joy they showed was enjoyed by everyone - well done to each of them.

Then last night we had a great turn out for our Christmas Movie Night, with the children enjoying some super treats along with their film. Thank you to all the staff who gave up their time to stay late and run this event.

Finally, we had a lovely ending to the week with our nursery children's Christmas Sing-a-long. What a bunch of superstars they were!

Next week, we are looking forward to our pantomime visit on Monday, Christmas parties for all classes, Key Stage 2's Sing-a-long and our choir visiting Derian House to spread some festive cheer.

What an exciting couple of weeks we have got coming up! It has been so lovely to see our whole school family working so hard to plan and prepare our Christmas Fair. We really hope you will come along and support us tomorrow - there is definitely something for everyone. Please see the full run down including pricing further down this letter.

Next week, families of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are in for a treat as the children take to the stage for their nativities. If you haven't got your tickets yet, there are still plenty available via the office or ScoPay. It is sure to be a very special time!

What a lot of kindness there has been going around school this week! Thank you to everyone who has sent in photos and messages about our Community Kindness Challenge. We have been sharing and celebrating these with the children and will continue to do so until the end of term.

Next week the works on the roof move onto their next stage, working over the Year 6 and then Year 4 classrooms. We will keep parents updated via Dojo, but we give you advanced warning that these classes will need to enter and leave school via the hall on some days whilst their classrooms are unavailable.

As we get closer to Christmas, there is lots going on in school. Just this morning, our stage went up, ready for nativity rehearsals! Make sure you keep an eye on the dates at the end of this letter so that you know what's going on.

Last night, many of our children came back to school to enjoy our annual 'Monster Ball!' The costumes, face paints, hair styles were absolutely incredible and it was lovely to see the children all having a great time with their friends! From bopping away to their favourite tunes, to wrapping their teachers in toilet paper, a great time was had by all! Thank you to all the staff and parents
who helped out by decorating the hall, selling sweets and treats and staying to clear up afterwards. The biggest thanks of all go to the wonderful Danny Zoom, who came along to entertain the children free of charge - thank you very much!

As you will have seen on last week's newsletter, over half term, work will begin on our brand new school roof. Whilst this is an exciting project, it is going to mean a lot of disruption over the next few months, and school is going to look very different when we return from the break. I will post some photos on Dojo over half term so that you can share them with your children. This will help
them know what to expect. We will keep you constantly updated with any required changes to routines.

Today it was amazing to hear in assembly, how many of our children are going 'over and above' by completing the weekly challenges set by their teachers. Keep checking your child's Class Dojo page each Friday for their class teacher's weekly update. These include details of the key learning in class, some photos and additional information about trips and activities. You will also find an optional weekly challenge set by their teacher which children may enjoy completing. Completing these challenges is a great way of going 'over and above' and children are invited to share and celebrate their learning in class.

A reminder that school is closing for half term next Friday at the usual time. We still have plenty of tickets available for the Monster Ball next Thursday - don't forget to get yours!

What a busy week it has been! Many children have enjoyed swimming lessons in the pop-up pool and have made great progress with their swimming skills. Children in Year 2 are looking forward to their turn next week! Today has been an exciting day as we enjoyed wearing our pyjamas to raise money for Alder Hey Children 's Hospital. The children especially loved meeting Alder Hey 's mascot, Oli the Elephant! We are delighted to share that we raised £316.00 plus a further £121.50 sold in merchandise to support the wonderful work Alder Hey do in caring for so many children and their families. It has been a great first full week in school. Our new Reception class have settled in wonderfully, making some lovely friendships and learning the routines of the school day. Today they have been meeting their Year 5 buddies which has been equally exciting for Reception and for Year 5!

What a wonderful week it has been! The week started with an amazing concert from Rock Kidz, who taught us songs with messages about the importance of kindness. The children loved taking part and were particularly thrilled to see their teachers taking part in the rock battles!

On Wednesday, each class spent the day with their new teacher and it was lovely to see how excited they all were to visit their new classes and meet their new team of staff.

Earlier in the week, Year 2 enjoyed a day at Smithill's Farm where they fed animals, rode donkeys and enjoyed the park. Mrs Robinson was so proud of their behaviour and the courtesy and kindness they showed whilst sharing the playground with a class of younger children. Today, Year 1 visited Martin Mere, and had a great time complimenting their learning in science and geography.

Last night it was just lovely to see so many families enjoying the summer fair and sunshine. The games, stalls and activities were enjoyed by everyone and the children who took part in the talent show blew the judges away with displays of singing, dancing, gymnastics, football skills and martial arts. Well done to every single one of them!

Tonight your child's report will come home with them. Please take some time to look at it, chat to them about it and celebrate their achievements this year. Next week is the last week of term and a reminder that school closes at the earlier time of 1.30pm next Friday. We still have lots to look forward to with our Buckfest festival on Monday, Year 6's end of year production, the pre-school graduation and end of year awards.

Thank you to everyone who donated items for the Summer Fair today. We had a great selection of items!

We would still be glad of any donations of teddies or bottles and would love to have donations for our cake stall on the day, either bought or homemade.

Well done to our nursery children who took part in their first sports day earlier in the week. What a great time they all had! Thank you to the nursery team for organising such a lovely morning.

Our new Reception class also came in for their final visit this week, enjoying lunch in school for the first time. We can see they are going to be a brilliant class! We are all looking forward to welcoming them full time in September.

Year 3 had a visit to the Hindu temple earlier this week and made Mrs Ellwood so proud with their respectful behaviour that she made every single one of them Star of the Week in this morning's assembly!

Most of our Year 6 children visited their new high schools also, and I'm sure came back to school just a little bit taller! It has been great to hear them chatting excitedly about next year.

Next week, we have a very busy week! We start on Monday with Rock Kidz, our 'Moving Up' day is on Wednesday and Year 1 and Year 2 have trips to look forward to! On Thursday afternoon, we hope lots of you will join us for our Summer Fair which runs from 3.30-5.30pm.

 Thank you to everyone who is busy selling raffle tickets for our summer raffle and to all who have donated  prizes. If anyone is able to donate a prize or knows of a business that may be prepared to do so, that would  be very much appreciated.

  We have a fabulous line up for our Buckshaw's Got Talent show, with just our Reception children left to  audition. Some members of our School Council have been busy running auditions and arranging the show.

 Next week, we are holding a non-uniform day on Friday 4^th July. We are asking for donations towards the fair on this day. If each child contributes one small item, this will be a great help to make the fair a success.   Please see the list below for suggestions.

Thank you to everyone who came along to today's sports day. The children had a great day and it was lovely  to see so many families here to cheer them along. A big thank you to all the staff for organising a great day.

Year 2 and Year 4 have also been out on adventures this week, with Year 2 visiting the Synagogue in Southport and Year 4 taking part in Lancashire Sings. Both teachers came back to school feeling super proud of the children for their behaviour and participation.

We also welcomed our new Reception class into school this week for their first session with our new teacher, Miss Hann. It was great to see them playing so nicely with their new friends.

Our pre-school and Reception children had a fantastic time on their trip to Wildlife Oasis earlier this week! The staff were so proud of their super behaviour and learning - well done children!

Next week is a very busy week! We are looking forward to visitors coming into school on Monday morning for our Father's Day Breakfast and crossing our fingers very tightly for good weather for our sports day on Friday. We hope to see you there!

Welcome back to all our families - we hope you had a lovely half term break. It's difficult to believe that we are in the last half term of this school year! Already, this week has flown by with just six more to go.

This week, our Year 5 children enjoyed a trip to Gulliver's World which included an overnight stay. As well as a day in the park, the children took part in activities such as den building, bucket drumming, archery, a disco and marshmallow toasting. Everyone has a wonderful time and we were extremely proud of all the children, whose behaviour was impeccable at all times. Our school values of independence and courage were on show in abundance - well done Year 5! Thank you to Mr Babcock, Mrs Smith, Mrs Mensforth, Mrs Trafford and Mr Boon, who all gave up their time to take the children

I am so proud of the impression that all our children made on the visiting inspectors from Ofsted this week.   I will be able to share the outcomes of their inspection with you all in a few weeks’ time when the report is published but, in the meantime, I can share that we were given some lovely feedback about the children's behaviour and manners.

Thank you also to all the parents and carers who took the time to complete the questionnaire or speak  to the inspectors on the playground earlier in the week.

A special well done to Year 6, who have worked so hard completing their SATs this week whilst still working hard and sharing their learning with our inspectors afterwards! They fully deserved their treat of a trip to the park for games and ice creams today!

What a lovely week it has been enjoying the sunshine! It has been great to see all the children having fun playing on the field together. Next week, as well as enjoying a bank holiday, we hope you will join us to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. We are holding a family craft session followed by a whole school picnic, starting at 11.30am and finishing at 1.00pm. Adults should bring their lunch and a blanket along. It's hard to believe we are now into the summer term, with lots of exciting events planned for the last term of the year!

In assembly this week, I talked to the children about how important good attendance at school is and introduced two new incentives. The first is a weekly class of attendance champions. This is the class who have collectively got the highest rate of attendance over the week. Each week, there will be a treat for the champion class to enjoy! The second is an incentive to be in school on time every day - the hot spot day!

One day each week you will spot a big red spot on our gates on the way into school - this means it's a hot spot day. Every child who is in class on time on a hot spot day will be given a ticket by their teacher to enter into a raffle at the end of each half term. At the end of this time, we will draw out a winner from Reception to Year 2 and another winner from Year 3-6, who will each win an exciting prize! You have to be in it to win it! You will find further details of our attendance and punctuality campaign in a separate letter and a leaflet in the children's bags tonight.

Last weekend a group of children had the most fantastic afternoon being VIP guests for Chorley FC at Victory Park. They visited the changing rooms to meet the players, waved flags on the pitch, met the team's mascot and then settled down to cheer on the team to a 2-0 victory! As usual, we were extremely proud of the way our children represented school and we hope to be invited back very soon! It has been a busy week in school with many visitors in to celebrate Mother's Day, a super trip to Bolton Environmental Centre for Year 3 and rounded up today with a lovely trip to an awards afternoon for the recent poetry competition that many of our children entered. Tomorrow morning, we are looking forward to cheering on our cross country team in Astley Park during the inter-schools competition. Next week is even busier as we reach the end of term! We look forward to celebration days for Eid, Easter, a family bingo night and Year 4 venture out to Liverpool Museum for a trip linked to their learning in history. What a lovely week of sunshine we have had for the start of spring! Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Gawthorpe Hall for a workshop to enhance their learning about Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet this week and this morning Year 4 entertained and educated children and adults about climate change in their class assembly. Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended this week's parents' evenings. We hope that you enjoyed looking at your child's work and found the meeting with their teacher helpful and informative. Next week, Year 6 are off to the Anderton Centre on their residential trip and on Thursday we are celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite characters and taking part in lots of book themed activities. Next week, we are looking forward to welcoming visitors into school for our open morning on Tuesday between 9.30-11.30am. Our Year 6 children will be thrilled to give you a tour of school if you are able to make it! The children will be learning all about staying safe online as it is Safer Internet Day.

Finally, to round off the half term, we are looking forward to our sponsored dance-athon! Don't forget to get kitted out in your favourite dancing gear, ready to have lots of fun and raise some funds for our School Council's latest project.
